Solar power at Lýsuhóll: 340 panels and battery storage
An equestrian hall in western Iceland now has a 172 kW solar array and 253 kWh of battery storage.

A solar power installation has been completed on the roof of the riding hall at Lýsuhóll on the Snæfellsnes peninsula. It consists of 340 panels with a rated peak output of 172 kilowatts (kW).
The project also includes battery storage with a stated capacity of 253 kilowatt-hours (kWh). The units describe different things: kW is a measure of power, while kWh measures the energy the batteries can store.
Geir Sveinsson of Ljósorka, the company responsible for design and installation, told Bændablaðið that he believes this may be Iceland's largest installation of its kind. That is an attributed assessment, not an independently verified national record.
The energy management system is designed to coordinate on-site generation, consumption and battery charging. It could reduce electricity purchases under suitable conditions, but independently verified annual output and cost savings have not been published in the material reviewed.
